Ingredients:

  • 2 cups rye flour
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon each allspice, ground cardamom, ginger, coriander and cloves
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup molasses/golden syrup
  • 1 cup milk

Method:

  1. Preheat the oven to 150C
  2. Sift and mix the dry ingredients, add the syrup, honey and milk and stir into a smooth batter
  3. Pour into a greased loaf tin
  4. Bake for 55 minutes, or until a skewer in the middle comes out clean
  5. Cool on a rack, then serve with butter
